Click photo to enlarge The Maytag Corporation is recalling more Maytag, Magic Chef, Performa by Maytag and Crosley brand refrigerators, because of an electrical failure that can cause overheating leading to a possible fire. Maytag issued a recall of the refrigerators in March of this year. Maytag has received three additional reports of incidents with no injuries in Canada. Outside of Canada, Maytag has received an 23 reports of incidents stemming from an electrical failure in the refrigerator's relay. There have been four reports of fire and smoke causing property damage. So far no one has been injured or killed by the faulty refrigerators. The recalled refrigerators include side-by-side and top freezer refrigerators. Model and serial numbers can be located by the printed label located on the top middle or left upper side of the refrigerator liner and have the following model and serial number combinations:
Approximately 17,000 units of the products included in this recall were sold at department and appliance stores, and by homebuilders in Canada between September 2000 and May 2004. Consumers should contact Maytag to determine if their refrigerator is included in the recall and if so, to schedule a free in-home repair.
