Health Canada Issues Frigidaire and Kenmore Brand Range RecallSears Canada issued a recall Wednesday of their Frigidaire and Kenmore Brand freestanding electric ranges due to a potential fire hazard caused by the heating elements on the ranges. The Frigidaire division of Electrolux Canada Corp. advised Sears of a potential safety hazard relating to the range's heating elements. The heating elements could turn on "spontaneously," fail to turn off or heat at different temperatures than selected through the controls. No serious injuries or incidents have been reported in Canada. The model number can be found by opening the range drawer at the bottom of the unit. The information plate appears on the right side of the frame. The recall affects the following models:
The ranges were sold between June 2001 and September 2008 at Sears Canada retail stores, online at www.sears.ca, and through the Sears Canada catalogue. Canadians who own the faulty ranges are urged to not use them until they are repaired.
